ComB — Comprehensive Behavioral Treatment for BFRBs
Helping clients gain control over hair pulling, skin picking, and similar behaviors
How It Helps
ComB is a specialized treatment for body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs), such as trichotillomania (hair pulling) and excoriation disorder (skin picking). It identifies the “why” behind the behavior—whether it’s sensory, emotional, cognitive, or habit-driven—and teaches tailored strategies to break the cycle.
Best for
-
Children (8+), teens, and adults
-
Trichotillomania, dermatillomania (skin picking)
-
Co-occurring anxiety, perfectionism, OCD traits
-
Medical conditions worsened by BFRBs (e.g., infection risk)
In our practice
We combine ComB with CBT and ACT to treat BFRBs compassionately. This work often overlaps with medical anxiety, especially when clients fear the consequences of their own picking/pulling but feel unable to stop.
